Compressor Urethrae

This muscle acts like a small ‘backup clamp’ for the urethra, helping prevent urine leakage during sudden pressure changes like coughing, laughing, sneezing, or jumping.
Function
Compresses the urethra from the anterior/ventral side and helps maintain urinary continence; it is part of the female external urethral sphincter complex.
Origin
Ischiopubic rami / rami of the ischium on each side.
Insertion
Fibers pass medially across the anterior surface of the urethra and blend with the opposite side, forming a broad arching muscular sling.
Innervation
Perineal branch of the pudendal nerve, mainly S2–S4.
