Iliocostalis Thoracis

The iliocostalis thoracis is the middle segment of the iliocostalis column, the most lateral part of the erector spinae group. It works continuously while standing and sitting upright, helping prevent you from collapsing forward under gravity.
Function
Extends the thoracic vertebral column bilaterally; laterally flexes the vertebral column to the same side unilaterally; assists with postural maintenance and spinal stabilization.
Origin
Angles of ribs 7–12.
Insertion
Angles of ribs 1–6 and the transverse process of C7.
Innervation
Dorsal rami of thoracic spinal nerves.
