Interspinalis Thoracis

The interspinalis thoracis is often poorly developed or even absent through much of the mid-thoracic spine. When present, it is more commonly found near the upper and lower thoracic vertebrae.
Function
Stabilizes adjacent thoracic vertebrae and assists with extension of the thoracic spine. It also contributes to fine segmental control and proprioception between neighbouring vertebrae.
Origin
Superior surface of the spinous process of a thoracic vertebra.
Insertion
Inferior surface of the spinous process of the vertebra immediately above.
Innervation
Posterior (dorsal) rami of thoracic spinal nerves.
