Intertransversarii Thoracis

The intertransversarii thoracis are much less developed than the cervical and lumbar intertransversarii. They are mainly present in the lower thoracic region near the thoracolumbar junction, where they help control tiny movements between neighbouring vertebrae.
Function
Assists with ipsilateral lateral flexion of the vertebral column and helps stabilize adjacent lower thoracic vertebrae. Because of their small size and deep location, they likely also contribute to proprioception by helping the nervous system sense subtle changes in spinal position.
Origin
Inferior surfaces of the transverse processes of T10–T12.
Insertion
Superior surfaces of the transverse processes of the immediately inferior vertebrae, approximately T11–L1.
Innervation
Posterior (dorsal) rami of the lower thoracic spinal nerves.
