Levator Costarum Brevis

The levator costarum brevis is a tiny rib elevator — it helps lift the ribs slightly during breathing, giving the rib cage a small ‘boost’ during inhalation.
Function
Elevates the ribs during inspiration; also assists with lateral flexion and slight extension of the thoracic spine.
Origin
Transverse processes of C7 to T11 vertebrae.
Insertion
The rib immediately below the vertebra of origin, between the tubercle and angle of the rib.
Innervation
Posterior/dorsal rami of C8 to T11 spinal nerves.
