A variable muscle/fibromuscular slip connecting the hyoid/thyroid region — present in a minority of people and most often discovered incidentally during neck surgery.
Function
May elevate thyroid gland or tense fascia; often no major function
Origin
Hyoid bone or thyroid cartilage, variable
Insertion
Thyroid gland/isthmus or pretracheal fascia
Innervation
Variable; often external laryngeal or ansa cervicalis region
