Rotatores Longi

Rotatores longi act more like “spinal sensors” than big movers. They help the nervous system know exactly where each vertebra is during posture, twisting, and small adjustments.
Function
Assist with small contralateral rotation of the vertebral column, help with spinal extension, stabilize individual vertebral segments, and contribute strongly to spinal proprioception.
Origin
Transverse processes of vertebrae, most developed in the thoracic region.
Insertion
Lamina and base/root of the spinous process of the vertebra two levels superior to the origin.
Innervation
Posterior (dorsal) rami of spinal nerves.
